Eurotrip 2009 || Day 6 “Imagine them in Togas”

leave a comment »

Rome-6053A line from our wonderful guidebook.  When imagining this great city through glasses of ancient times, the real power of these ruins grab at you.  You begin to do this thing called learn. Not by reading, hearing, or even looking, but by placing yourself in the city.  Rome is beautiful.  I have a couple more days here, but the observations are overflowing.  I wish I could post on every little tidbit, but this will just have to do

Eurotrip 2009 || Day 5 “Bella Roma”

Rome-0434Rome-0432

Location: Dark dim room of 8 in a Alessandro Palace Hostel

Okay I’ve only seen maybe a radius of 5 blocks of Rome, but what I’ve seen is great!  It’s not so much maybe the views but more so the culture.  The people here are so rich with character and they’re all so opinionated.  They really do have the stereotypical Italian “talking hands”!  I had lunch at this place called Snack Bar.  The most generic name in the world with the most un-generic food. We had Seafood Spaghetti, a Fruit Salad, and a Croissant, which all turned out to be top notch, well deserving for our first meal in Italy.  We then had dinner in a pizza parlor across the street from our hostel that was cool.  The guy working there was nice to us and asked us if “it was good pizza”, which I promptly returned with a big thumbs up.  Honestly, these are more the moments I want to see, even more than the sights and attractions.

Eurotrip 2009 || Day 4 “Scotch Whiskey”

leave a comment »

Today we ventured into the fabled Edinburgh Castle, and I get the sense that the Scottish are as patriotic as any other country, which is great!  My appreciation for Scottish culture has grown comfortably and my tolerance and even enjoyment of the pipes has budded.  I then had an excellent tour of the process and tasting of Scotch Whiskey.  12 year old single malt whiskey from the Islay.  If you can’t tell, I’m giggling.

Later:  I’m currently at London Stansted airport spending the night.  Who knew there were so many poor traveling college folk who couldn’t afford housing for the evening? Rome tomorrow.  Thanks for reading my friends, it’s been fun taking pictures and writing down my thoughts, I hope you keep along.

Eurotrip 2009 || Day 3 “Festival!”

A free 3 hour walking tour?  You betcha, today was an incredible day in Edinburgh.  Something about the boiling hotpot of history, tradition, and youth brings this city a very lovable quality.  I understand why Heather (our tour guide) fell in love with Edinburgh and has remained in this old town.  For once, I hope I don’t fall in love.

East Coast Swing || Day 6-9 “Washington D.C.”

leave a comment »

East coast Swing-5874I skipped out on day 8 because I was simply too damned tired.  Washington D.C. is Washington D.C.  It serves it’s purpose in getting me patriotic and in touch with our roots.  It happens every time I visit, and I expect it to hit me like it did every time.  Home again tomorrow.

Time: 9:21 PM

-Written in my “Field Notes”

I’ve been in D.C. the past few days so I haven’t been able to update.  It’s been a highlight of my trip for sure, just because everything is so grand and formal and patriotic in our Capitol.  It’s definitely an experience I like to have every few years.  Despite all the issues we face in our nation today, I still feel an undying love for Her when I witness the heritage that started it all.

East Coast Swing || Day Three “Rain”

with one comment

I tried to wake up I swear.  It’s a shame the rain kept us in all day.  New York is something else, I feel like I can’t quite put it into words but it’s just a strange feeling I get walking in and about Manhattan.  I suppose a change of scenery always feels great but even so, it certainly wouldn’t be a bad place to visit every now and then.

Rained all day and I slept in.  Was planning on giving the Statue of Liberty a visit, but ended up going to the USS Intrepid and eating some good Japanese food.  The picture is of my cute pink bed with all my crap all over it.  Damn the rain!
