Denim || Repairs, Contest, Update

leave a comment »

It’s been a while since I’ve updated anything.  Thought it would be nice to start it off again with some pictures of these 2 babies.  Repairs were done. I’ve worn the SExDBxS09 from Dry Bones for about 16 months now, and the Dry Bones Red-D for maybe 1 year total.  They had some seriously debilitating wear and tear that made them less than ideal for use… of course until last week.

Sent them into Schaeffer Garment Hotel for some repairs per recommendations from a couple cool cats on Superfuture.  Robert, who used to run Denim Doctors, and his crew helped patch them up real nice.  The SExDBxS09 had pocket reinforcements (they were torn to bits), knee reinforcements through a super fancy reconstruction method, and a hem/chainstitch.  The Red-D’s had the knees patched with old denim, the rear end patched, and a hem/chainstitch too.  Enjoy.

Figured I’d give an update on the progress of these.  One of the beauties of raw denim is the fact that it’s so dramatically different from the jeans on the next guy.  It’s a piece that is truly yours, something that you can claim as your own.  We can do so for few things these days.  8th month update will hopefully will come soon, pending how busy I get.

Saw this from Self Edge’s twitter, knew I would be sharing this.  If you aren’t into denim, this trailer will show you why people are.  If you are into denim, this trailer will tickle you in all the funny places.

Another month since the 3 Month update.  The denim as a whole seems to have that “electric blue” awkward stage.  Enjoy the pics, because the locations will only get stranger now.

SExDBxS09 Contest Jeans Month 3

with 2 comments

‘Tis the 3 month mark (3 and a half to be exact) of my SelfEdge x DryBones x Superfuture 2009 contest jeans.  Pretty significant fading for only 3 months of wear compared to the original. If you aren’t familiar with this collaboration, or to denim obsessions in general:

Supertalk, boasting an extremely active 40,000 users, is home to a sub-forum named Superdenim which is dedicated to all things denim, workwear, leather boots, and Americana reproductions. Over the years Superdenim has seen it’s fair share of denim contests, where the contestants are to wear the same jean every day for a certain duration of time, most commonly the span of the contest lasts from 12 to 24 months. With the SEXDBXS09 jean we’ve allowed the users of Superfuture and Superdenim to give their input on styling, cut, and accents for a very special jean to be released on February 28th; even the leather patch was designed by a renowned artist from Texas named JimmyC from Superfuture.

Still find it feasible to wear these during the hot summer months in So-Cal.  Hope the dryness holds up, otherwise it’s to the shorts we go…

I purchased you.

“The SEXDBXS09 jean has been produced by Dry Bones, one of Japan’s longest running vintage Americana style denim manufacturers. Months were spent getting the denim exactly where we wanted it and the denim was woven for this project; as the denim has never before been used on another garment nobody knows exactly how it will age.

Self Edge has chosen a denim with a little more weight than the classic styles, at 16oz it’s got heft to it, and with massive amounts of character showing from the warp and weft it’s sure to age well. ” -Self Edge
