Week 33 Roundup || Porsches in the Wild

with 2 comments

This is the first of a new weekly roundup of things seen across the web. Feel free to submit things for next week’s corral.

Porsches in the Wild are always eye catching. A Time to Get pleasures us with more great shots from his iPhone.

Lightweight Campers make me want to go on a really long hiatus across the country. Re-nest reports on a portable toilet too.

Fall 2010 Essentials: Heavy Tweed isn’t just a Fall 2010 essential, it’s a Fall for the rest of your life one, get it right Made to Measure!

Wasteland Festival Trailer is truly a fascinating looking trailer dug up by 2 or 3 things I know.  Let’s hope it’ll come by near me one day.

Furnishing || Functionality and Craftsmanship

with 2 comments

I have an obsession with functionality and craftsmanship. You may know me or read my blog and think that I like things that are designed well, have a good aesthetic, are “fashionable” (god forbid), etc.  You can make a valid point, but what I’ve concluded recently is that my true attraction is functionality and craftsmanship.  Not just clothes, but furnishing, automobiles, bags, bottles, utensils, watches.  You name it and if it’s made with a craftsman’s masterful hands for a specific purpose or need, you have me hooked.  It’s genetic, I’m sure.  My father’s dream is to retire making furniture, carvings, or other goods out of wood.  I grew up watching my family haggle over whether a piece of furniture was any good or whether a car was built well or not, which eventually leads me to this post.

My interest in quality and well-designed furniture has really peaked as of late.  I’ve been reading a few blogs and flickrs that have really turned my eye onto creative and sturdy furnishing and interior items.  I’ll relay them to you as well, but to nail in the point again: functionality and craftsmanship is the foundation of all successful furniture design.  Check the pictures and see if you agree.
