I’m going back.  I’ve been to NY many times before and each time I seem to enjoy myself more and more.  I was as cold as I think I have ever been, save for traveling in Prague and Berlin a year ago.  Had a little fun with layering up in the morning and definitely slapped a dent in my wallet.  I don’t really have the energy to recant everything that happened so I hope these pictures will do.

Linus Canvas Panniers are always on my radar, but now I just might have to jump on it.  Linus with a great set of panniers that are simply classic.

Moleskine has created a cult trend lately with a smart marketing campaign and  very simple yet effective notebooks.  Yet a problem I have with Moleskines is it’s mobility in my pocket.  A softcover notebook still contains hundreds of pages that are most likely blank, and if they’re mostly filled, most of the pages you won’t look back on.  Solution?  Another company that’s creating a cult following: Field Notes.

Seen on the left is the classic Field Notes that comes in a 3-pack for $9.95 and on the right, California 3-Pack for $9.95.  They function as a template for my thoughts, quotes I find inspiring, moments that move me, a place to doodle my grocery list, a folder to hold my receipts, an outlet when I’m bored in class, I can go on and on.

It looks simple, is Made in the U.S.A. with care, and it fits in my pocket.

Gant Rugger F/W 2010 from Sartorially Inclined is a great look into a pretty solid brand that plays it safe yet keeps it fresh.  At least worthy of some ideas for the cold in the coming months.

DIY or BUY from someone who did.  That’s the idea behind thegetupandgetdown, made from the fella behind A Time to Get, one of my favorite blogs on the web.

Then, I found American Optical.  The company finds its roots in 1826 where it then flourished over the next century to become one of the main suppliers of the U.S. Military’s optical equipment from gun sights to flight goggles.  In 1958, Flight Goggle 58 became the Original Pilot that I purchased a few weeks ago.  Still manufactured in Massachusetts, the gold pair goes for an easy $50 on Amazon, a ridiculous price for a pair identical to the Randolph Engineering pair and far exceeding the quality of other aviators on the market today.  I personally opted for the ‘comfort cable’ temples, which gives me a more secure fit to my face than the ‘bayonet’ temples.  It doesn’t get more classic than this.

Enter one of my most coveted brands.  RRL.  Ralph’s cult-like following is well-documented and his reproductions are spot on.  The prices are far higher than I can afford, so it’s always been far out of reach.  Until…

…I bought this shirt at a killer price on eBay.  Beautiful.

Details, Fit, and Quality.  The 3 criteria that defines all menswear is more than adequately satisfied in this chambray shirt.  Selvedge on the gusset, the inside of the placket, a triple chainstitch running across the entire garment, and even a writing-instrument pocket on the left breast.  The chambray is lightweight but strong, and it fits me spot on.  One of the things that bothered me about the J.Crew chambray was the fact that I couldn’t button up the collar as a sacrifice for a Small.  No problem there.  Everything is on point.
